What Google Play requires
Play is stricter about how many images you provide than about their exact dimensions. Every listing needs at least two phone screenshots, and a listing with fewer than four is not eligible to be promoted anywhere on Play. Each image must be between 320 px and 3840 px on every side, with the long side no more than twice the short side. The 1080 × 1920 default here sits comfortably inside all of that and matches what most Android phones actually capture.
The feature graphic is a separate, mandatory asset: one landscape banner at exactly 1024 × 500, shown at the top of your listing and used wherever Play promotes your app. It is the one image that is genuinely required rather than merely recommended, and it is the one most indie listings get wrong — usually by putting text near the edges, which gets cropped on some surfaces. The feature graphic layout here keeps the headline well inside the middle for that reason.
Tablet screenshots are optional but worth having: without 7-inch and 10-inch sets your app is marked as not designed for tablets, which affects both how it is ranked and whether it is promoted to tablet and Chromebook users.
The Play sizes and a Pixel frame are already selected below.
Build my setPixel, Galaxy, or no frame at all
Pick the frame that matches the device your screenshots actually came from. The Pixel frame has a centred punch-hole camera and softly rounded corners; the Galaxy frame is squarer with a tighter bezel. Both are drawn as vector paths rather than overlaid images, so they stay sharp at the 1600 × 2560 tablet size as well as the phone one.
Play has no rule requiring a device frame, and some developers prefer to go without — “No frame” draws your screenshot as a rounded card on the background instead. What matters more is consistency: one template, one font and one palette across the whole set, which is what you get by default here since every setting applies to the full set unless you override it on a single image.
Your screenshots are drawn exactly as uploaded. Nothing is regenerated, restyled or, with the default fit setting, even cropped.
Shipping to both stores at once
If the same app is going to the App Store too, there is no reason to build the set twice. Tick the iPhone sizes alongside the Play ones and a single export produces both, with identical headlines, colours and layout — just the right device frame and pixel size per folder. The zip comes out sorted as Google Play/Phone/, Google Play/Feature Graphic/, App Store/iPhone 6.9-inch/, and so on.
To upload, open the Play Console and go to Grow → Store presence → Main store listing. Phone screenshots, tablet screenshots and the feature graphic each have their own slot there, which maps one to one onto the folders in the zip. If you want the iOS-first version of this page instead, the App Store screenshot generator opens with the Apple sizes preselected.
