What the feature graphic is for, and why it gets cropped
The feature graphic is the wide banner at the top of your Play listing. It is also what Play uses wherever it promotes your app — editorial collections, category pages, the Play Store on a TV or a car display. That last part is the catch: those surfaces do not all show the full 1024 × 500. Some crop the sides, some overlay a play button or a title in the centre, and on a narrow phone the outer edges are the first thing to go.
The practical rule is to keep anything that must be read inside roughly the middle 60% of the width and away from the vertical centre line. The layout here does that for you: the headline sits in the left half with generous margin and the device sits to the right, tilted and bleeding slightly off the edge, so cropping takes a sliver of the frame rather than a word of your text.
Play requires PNG or JPEG with no transparency and will refuse an image that is not exactly 1024 × 500. The export here is a flat PNG drawn directly at that size.
The feature graphic size is already the only one ticked below.
Build my setWhat to put on it
A feature graphic is not a screenshot and not a logo — it is a poster. Three things belong on it: your app name, one short line saying what the app does, and a single visual that reads instantly at banner size. That visual is usually one app screen, which is why this tool places a framed device on the right rather than trying to fit several.
Keep the headline to four or five words. The space is wide but only 500 pixels tall, and the image is often shown at a fraction of that, so a long sentence becomes unreadable grey texture. “Track every habit in seconds” works; “The complete habit tracking and personal productivity solution” does not. The built-in headline library is written to this length, and on a paid plan the AI writer is prompted the same way.
Colour matters more here than anywhere else in the listing, because the banner sits next to your icon and screenshots. Set the background to your brand colour and the accent to something that contrasts with it, and the whole listing reads as one thing.
Exporting it with the rest of your listing
The feature graphic lives in the same export as your screenshots, so there is no separate tool to learn. Tick “Play feature graphic” on its own if that is all you need, or tick it alongside the Play phone and tablet sizes and get the whole listing in one zip — Google Play/Feature Graphic/feature-graphic.png next to Google Play/Phone/, all sharing the same template, colours and font.
Upload it in the Play Console under Grow → Store presence → Main store listing, in the Graphics section above the screenshots. If you need the screenshots too, the Google Play screenshot generator opens with those sizes preselected instead.
